i’m afraid i don’t know as much about the ps4 because, well, no one kinda does! i know the specs and they seem really good, and i’ve seen quantic dream’s tech demo - which was great, mind you, but it’s also quantic dream, so i doubt that will be the standard/average of ps4 games (and also, xbox one’s COD models seemed only slightly worse off).

i actually think i’ll like the sharing etc, because i enjoy gaming more when it’s done socially - and because i fucking love achievement hunting and the bragging that follows.

the touch pad is kinda stupid imo and i hope it’s at least better than the vita’s. i’ve only tried the ps vita a couple of times (although i think it was a prototype, not sure) and i couldn’t even reach half of the thing at the back, lol. i do wonder what they’ll use it for game-wise - i can’t see a good use for it to be honest (just like for the wii u controller’s screen). i am also excited for the new ps version of kinect (whatever it’s called). i hope they turn it into something with an actual sense, rather than what it is now, that is a little shitty device specific to stupid little games like eyepet or whatever. i mean, imagine what it would be like to play a game with astounding graphics and that can also perceive your movements and voice. well, it would probably only work for short story-driven experiences, because tbh i’d get tired of all that moving around, but still. i wish they’d just abandon the stupid move, though, but hopefully they won’t force it on people (still not over the 1.5gb ‘move edition’ for heavy rain that i was forced to download even though i’ve never owned fucking move).

what i’m mostly worried about with the ps4 is backward compatibility (seriously, i’m still not over the fact that i can’t play most of my ps2 games on my 80gb ps3), because people pay a shitload of money for games nowadays and it fucking sucks to have to give them up - but the same concern goes for the xbox one, really.

idk, i’m just waiting for e3 basically, to see what they’ve turned playstations into. i hope it’s not another tv thing like the xbox one. but then again the ps4 will definitely cost more than the xbox so what am i even rambling on, i’m never going to afford either of them :D

well, i really wasn’t impressed with the launch to be honest, but i’ll hold off on my judgement until it’s actually out there. first, i don’t own an xbox 360 so i’m not overly familiar with what’s out there right now (i’ve used it plenty, just never on my own private time), so i can’t make a comparison between the 360 and one. secondly, xbox one is not out yet so we only know what we’ve been shown, which isn’t necessarily all there is to it. to that extent, they didn’t show much (if anything!) in terms of games and gaming performance. it’s more of a home entertainment/media system, which i think was a very logical step to take considering how, say, the ps3 is considered right now in the market (not just for games). i am a bit worried about the whole kinect shebang, but then again i also think that it either will not be mandatory to use (it wouldn’t be very disability-friendly, whether it be movement, voice, etc), or it will be made optional once the public reaction is clear enough (after launch).

so basically i am not particularly impressed at the moment, but i also don’t think is that big a piece of shit. the launch showed what it did to get the biggest possible market share for games and stuff (teens), so we got cod and sports. but of course that’s not indicative at all of the type of games that will come out on xbox one. so i’ll wait and see what happens.

also, price will be a big factor i think - at least for me. i do not need a media system and will not pay like £500 so that i can use my voice to tell my tv to switch channels (i don’t even have tv, and i don’t want to have it…), i want to use my xbox one or ps4 to play videogames. i would not just pay an extra £100-200 for extra stuff and functionality that i simply don’t need. i am sure both the xbox one and the ps4 will be amazing (the ps3 wasn’t particularly exciting when it first came out either), as long as it’s honest and microsoft and sony don’t make very bad steps such as fees for 2nd hand games etc. so, unless they seriously fuck it up (and there’s no way they wouldn’t know that charging a fee for 2nd hand games would enrage most, if not all, gamers), i think there’s a lot of potential.
